THE WORLD WOMEN CONFERENCE
“BEIJING 20 YEARS LATER”STATI GENERALI DELLE DONNE
On 5th December 2014, the Women Conference was held in Rome, in the building housing the European Parliament, under the aegis of the Ministry of Development. More than 200 women – including entrepreneurs, professionals, politicians and other citizens – addressed a variety of issues in view of the EXPO and of the World Women Conference “Beijing Twenty Years Later" in Milan on 26th, 27th and 28th September 2015.
The event was initiated and has been organized by Isa Maggi, founder of the Sportello Donna network and President of BicNet Italia (Business Innovation Centers Italy).
Isa explains: “During recession, women create work and their struggle is essentially positive. The World Women Congress came into being to provide space and give voice to the feminine component and to enhance it”.
Women could actually change our country’s destiny for the better during the current economic crisis. They are converging to offer solutions, presenting useful projects, some of which have already been launched, whereas others can be developed jointly.
“The purpose of the World Women Congress is to discuss and compare ideas. It is open to the public and it includes other events – already held or to be held in each Italian region, the first of which took place in Rome – that enable the sharing of best practices and abstracts on different topics, collected and published online. Besides highlighting and comparing relevant data in the social, cultural and economic domain on European, national, regional and local level, in Rome we came up with significant data resulting from two years of work done across the country, based on two important initiatives: Women Who Endure (Donne che resistono) and Women Who Have Made It (Donne che ce l'hanno fatta)”, says Isa.
A new model of development has been put forward as a strategy to overcome the crisis with the force of women. Data show that, in difficult times, women create work, struggling in a positive manner, coming up with ideas that can revolutionize the way in which their respective communities are managed.
We should restart not from mere recipes, but from legislative and economic interventions based on ethical values to rebuild a sustainable social and financial economy to meet the needs and sustain gender policies.
A new vision of leadership is emerging from the Women Conference. A document that will be presented to the national and international authorities was elaborated, with proposals and concrete projects based on real, daily needs, addressing issues such as equality based democracy, work, innovation, integration, education, leadership and European caregiving projects.
The climax of the Women Congress events is the World Women Congress – Beijing Twenty Years Later, to take place in late September 2015 in Milan, within the Expo.
The focus however remains on finding solutions to improve working conditions, increase the employment rate and create jobs for women.
A brief report from the Women Congress held in Rome is attached herewith. The final report to be presented at the World Women Congress in September will include a synthesis of the regional events and their specific issues.
And finally, these are the main goals:
